Quoting Unpublished Documents / Abbreviations of Collections

Unpublished documents are quoted by name of collection (as given on our Collections page) plus full inventory no., e.g. "P.Vind.inv. A.P. 1054". If possible, mention place of origin and date.

Quoting Published Documents and Research

A document published in a monograph is quoted by short title of edition (as in the ISAP checklist; possibly including no. of volume; short title, in our bibliography given in square brackets; no author) plus no. of document in edition, e.g. "P.Heid.Arab. I 3" or "CPR XVI 3".

A document published in an article is quoted by "P." plus name of author plus distinctive noun(s) of title (in our bibliography given in square brackets) plus possibly no. of volume, etc. plus no. of document in edition, e.g. "P.AbbottMarriageContracts 2".

Research in monographs is referred to by name of author plus short title of edition (as in the ISAP checklist; possibly including no. of volume; short title, in our bibliography given in square brackets; no author) plus no. of page, e.g. "Becker, P.Heid.Arab. I p. 30".

Research in articles is referred to by name of author plus distinctive noun(s) of title (in our bibliography given in square brackets) plus possibly no. of volume, etc. plus no. of page, e.g. "Diem, Orthographie II p. 105".

Published documents are not quoted by inventory no. If possible, mention place of origin and date.

For all titles left unspecified, write a short message to kaplony at lmu.de.

Note: The Arabic Papyrology Bibliography includes occasionally editions of documents from the Cairene Genizah.
